Please keep Shepherd’s Kitchen in your prayers – the guests, volunteers and all who support this ministry. Last week, the program leader, who is in her 80s, announced that she was stepping down and the program would close as of October 27. There will be special meals served Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends. Shepherd’s Kitchen feeds 100 people every Saturday and Sunday. Most are the poorest of the poor and have few options.
The program is hosted by Church of the Good Shepherd on Broadway in Newburgh and has been staffed for the past 17 years by a coalition of volunteers from churches around the area. The Saturday and Sunday volunteer meals teams remain in place but the midweek behind the scenes work – shopping, coordination with the food bank, admin, prep and volunteer coordination - face a vacuum.
There is holy listening going on now. Are these meals still needed? Is this ministry still needed?
Let us pray: God, what are you calling us to now?
